In our view, the drafters of the GDPR see the digitalization of human experience as inappropriately reductionist and have therefore inserted some safeguards against this tendency (e.g., right to human intervention in the case of algorithmic profiling). We tried to lay out the conceptual/philosophical foundations for what we call “humanistic personalization,” which derives from philosophical ideas underpinning European data protection law.
