Thanks for the comment, Michael. You make a very valid point, one that I was actually planning to address in another post, but haven’t yet gotten around to writing. In short, two approaches seem promising to me: Habermas’ notion of communicative reason and David Wong’s formulation of naturalized morality. I think either one would be able to incorporate the diverse viewpoints needed to put data science ethics on solid ground in the modern, globalized world.
